Large turnout for Anglia Ruskin’s new research group
We are pleased to announce that the launch event for our new Centre for Science Fiction and Fantasy on 15 February 2017 was a resounding success. The event attracted over 70 guests, including staff members and students from PhDs to first-year undergraduates, along with many interested writers and fans from the community.
PhD student Marian Womack delivered a lovely, unsettling reading from her forthcoming collection Lost Objects, while Creative Writing Lecturer Dr Una McCormack (Star Trek – The Missing; Doctor Who: An Eye for Murder) entertained the crowd with her tale of space academics.
Director of the Centre Dr Helen Marshall also spoke at the event to celebrate the official launch. Afterwards, she said:
“It was wonderful to see such a lively and engaged crowd. We have a real opportunity here to foster new talent and shape the future direction of the field.
“Science Fiction and fantasy are two genres very close to my heart, and they have historically sat at the fringes of academic discussions. But Anglia Ruskin University has been their champion for many years.”
The next step for the Centre will be to host a series of events and conferences bringing together academics, authors, editors and members of the book publishing industry.
